A Tale of Two Kites

Two kites took to the sky one day, T
hey aimed for the clouds so far and away.

As they soared toward the heavens one kite though,
“I could go so much higher, if my string weren’t so taut!”

So, he broke his string and expected to go higher,
But he didn’t soar faster and he didn’t inch skyward.

Instead, he started to falter and was tossed by the wind.
Without a string as an anchor, he began to descend.

He realized, as he fluttered down from the sky,
The string wasn’t stopping him, it was helping him fly.

Those strings- like the commandments- help us everyday
They anchor us and guide us safely on our way.

Don’t be deceived, thinking some rules have you caught.
You’ll only become greater if your moral string is taught.

Sisters at Heart

A poem for Visiting Teaching

God gave us sisters, to help us on our way,
He knew we would need support everyday.

Some sisters are blood, raised together from youth,
Yet others are met along our path towards truth.

We are, all of us unique, with different burdens to bear.
Yet despite our diversity we’ve no need to despair.

The Lord saved us all, went where no other could tread,
And the gift of His atonement is our one common thread.

We may find our struggles seem harder each day,
But if you lean on me we can both find our way.

We don’t need to be identical to know a sister’s in pain,
We have felt His love, His love for you and we feel the same.

So, we beg -we implore -we ask you sincerely…
When struggles take hold- call us, because we love you dearly.

Friendship Blooms

Two little flowers were planted one day,
In a beautiful garden somewhere far away.

They fast became friends and promised never to part,
They entwined their stems and touched each other’s heart.

Years passed by and the flowers grew,
They shared joys, tears and the wisdom they knew.

Then one day the winds of change blew by
And forced one flower to take to the sky.

The flower cried out, “Don’t leave me my friend!”
And the other one vowed “We’ll be together again!”

Years came and went and the flowers yet grew
Changing as the weather and earth made them to.

The once young flowers, now mature and refined
Had bloomed through the years and changed over time.

Their once fragile petals had grown strong with the years.
Beaten down by some seasons, they gained strength through their tears

Soon the winds of change will blow by them again,
And take them away, perhaps back to their friend?

I wonder if they will know each other, despite the changes time wrought.
Will they feel the same joy after finding the friend they sought?

Or will they think the other so different now?
Knowing the friendship is there, but not the same somehow.

No matter the changes they see in their friend,
The bond they first formed will remain ‘till the end.

Pearls of Friendship

Do you know how a pearl is formed?
How it comes to be?
It all starts with a grain of sand,
An oyster, and the sea.

The sand lands in the oyster
And then the magic starts.
The oyster begins its work
To create this piece of art.

Layer upon layer
The pearl starts to grow,
Each day, a bit larger
Each day a bit more glow.

And so it goes on growing,
It’s quite a miracle to see,
A glorious, luminous beauty
Created through sand and sea.

Pearls are so like friendships,
They start out small, unsure.
But over time they grow
Becoming strong and pure.

I’m so grateful for your friendship,
For the moments that we’ve shared.
For the words and deeds of love
That let me know you cared.

I want you to know that I love you
And whether we’re near or apart
I’ll always cherish those moments
And keep you close, within my heart.
